Qualified Charitable DistributionS (QCD)

Make a tax-smart gift from your IRA.

What Is a QCD?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-smart way to help SASi make life better for seniors in our community.

If you are 70½ or older and have an IRA, you may be able to donate directly from your IRA to SASi. By age 73, you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA each year. If you don’t need part or all of your RMD, a QCD lets you lower your taxable income by directing those funds to charity instead.

How It Works

All money from an IRA that is given directly to a qualified charity through a QCD is excluded from your income and is not taxed.

For example, if you give $1,000 from your IRA to SASi, that $1,000 is deducted from your taxable income — you pay no taxes on it.

You can donate up to $105,000 per year through QCDs, and the gift counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution.

Important Details

The donation must go directly from your IRA to SASi. It cannot come to you first and then be forwarded as a personal check. Your financial institution must make the check payable to:

Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc.
EIN: 82-0418894
820 Main Street, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864
