Summer is finally here in Sandpoint! We are delighted to tell you about some upcoming events for the month of June. On Saturday, June 18th, 2016, the Sandpoint Injector Car Club will be hosting a BBQ for SASi. They will be cooking up a storm with a delicious array of foods and will also be bringing along some of their members' cars. As this is also Father's Day weekend, please invite your family and friends. There is a $5.00 a plate donation. The BBQ is from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and all proceeds will go to SASi's food programs.
The next event we are excited about will be a "Summer Picnic" being hosted by SASi participant, Donna Peterson. The BBQ is being held on Friday, June 24th, 2016, from 3:00 pm until it's over. Donna's sons are cooking all of the food, which will include hot dogs, hamburgers, all sorts of side dishes and beverages. You are welcome to bring anything you might need for the afternoon such as chairs, towels, blankets, and if you want to enjoy the water, be sure to bring along floats, kayaks, etc. Donna has invited all of us to come over and enjoy the day. There is no donation for this event. Just come have fun and play!! For more information and directions, please call the office at 208-263-6860.

Did you ever see the 1997 “Seinfeld” episode when “Festivus” was introduced as the alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the holiday season? Well, long before 1997, when I was young, I was confused about the difference between Christmas and Hanukkah. My mom explained it to me and then asked if we should blend the words and celebrate a new holiday that we called Chrishannukah. I liked that idea a lot and when I was older and learned about Solstice, I talked to my mom about adding to the word and we came up with Chrisolhan. We kept Chrisolhan for many years, but then I learned about Kwanzaa, and our holiday word became Chrisolhanzaa! As I gained an understanding about other world religions, I learned about Ramadan and thought about all of these holidays happening in the winter (in the northern hemisphere anyway) and the word became Chrisolhanzaadanter! About 15 years ago, my friend Jenn told me about St. Lucia Day celebrated in Scandinavia and we added to the word again! It became Chrisolhanzaadanterlucia! Last year, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving coincided for the first time in a zillion years and it won’t happen again for another zillion! So I had to add to the word! It feels complete now, so I don’t think I will have to add to it again for a while, but you never know! So, no matter what you call it, I hope you have a wonderful, magical holiday season and a Merry Christmas! Happy Chrisolhanzaadanterluciagiving! And Happy New Year!!
The SASi Board of Directors and staff wish you and your family a very Happy Holiday season and New Year! We are looking forward to 2015. We will be adding new programs and classes to the already busy calendar. We will be closed for the Christmas holiday on December 25 and 26th, and New Year’s Day, January 1.
The holidays are upon us and we would like to invite you to come and visit SASi! We will be having our annual Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 20th with all the fixings. If you would like to join us, please call a day or two ahead of time as it is always a big crowd. The center will be closed for the holiday on Thursday, November 27th and 28th.
Here at the Sandpoint Area Senior Center, we are taking a deep breath after the Harvest Fundraiser, and updating our new website. Please be patient as we learn new skills, and check out the calendar for the meal menus. Soon we will have other events posted on the calendar as well.
